OUR PROCESS
Each Sound Designs piece is years in the making. From beginning to end, our process is designed with sustainability in mind.

It all begins with the tree. We source wood from downed or fallen trees on the North Shore of Long Island. Also known as the “Gold Coast” this area is known for its abundant natural beauty and provides choice, unusual material for our projects.
Not just any fallen tree will do. We only collect wood with potential to create truly outstanding pieces of the highest quality. The wood is then milled by one of the most skilled sawyers in the country (in our opinion, anyway).

Next, the slabs and boards are air dried for up to two years. This is a slow process, of course, but we promise it's worth the wait. Our wood is then kiln dried to provide additional stability before it comes back to our workshop.

Here’s where you come in. We collaborate with our commercial and residential customers to create furniture that is perfectly suited to their space. Before the first cut is made, our design team works with customers to turn their vision into reality. Often this starts with a phone call and a sketch. The idea is to create a piece that is both beautiful and functional while becoming a focal point in the space.

Finally, our experienced team will make a unique piece of furniture that truly captures the beauty of nature and finished with only non-toxic finishes.
