Our Story
Sound Designs makes high-quality custom furniture for commercial and residential customers.
What's In The Name?
We’re named after Long Island Sound — the body of water that shapes this place, and the source of our inspiration.
Sound Designs makes custom furniture for commercial and residential customers. We started by rescuing downed and fallen trees right here on the North Shore — the “Gold Coast” of Long Island — and using this material to make furniture.
Early on, the focus was on live edge pieces. As our team has grown, we’ve expanded into cabinetry and fine furniture projects.

What Makes Us Special?
We’re incredibly responsive — call us anytime between 8am and 8pm. We’re obsessed with quality and dedicated to bringing artistry and originality to our work.
Custom furniture is all about you, the customer. Our goal is to make you something you’ll never want to get rid of.

Joel Landstein | Cabinet Maker
Joel has been a cabinetmaker for over 25 years, specializing in high-end kitchens, closets, and built-ins. As the owner of JRL Cabinetry, much of his work has been on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and on the North Shore of Long Island. Joel brings his experience and expertise to all cabinet projects at Sound Designs, where he provides unparalleled attention to detail.
Call us anytime between 8am and 8pm — if you reach out, you will get a response, no doubt.
Joel is the OG of ogee (sorry, we had to go there — we’re big fans of woodworking puns). He studied mechanical engineering at NYIT and is always learning new techniques in the shop.

Carlos Rivas | Creative & Production
Carlos is a skilled artist and painter who values the process behind every piece and brings a creative vision to Sound Designs. He studied Mechanical Engineering at SUNY Buffalo, which sparked his interest in the wood trade.
With a background in painting and design, Carlos approaches wood as both a material and a medium. He enjoys the process as much as the result. At Sound Designs, he supports a wide range of projects from concept through completion.
