Tell us about your project. Send a sketch if you have one. If not, we'll draw one. Photos of pieces you like help too. We settle the design together, build it in our Glen Cove shop, then deliver and install it ourselves. Call, text, or email and we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

Yes. If we don’t have the perfect slab in our inventory, we can source one. Never settle!

Sometimes. Almost all of our pieces are made to order, but sometimes we make prototypes for new designs and offer them for sale in the shop.

Dining tables are generally $5,000 and up depending on size, materials, leg options, and other choices. Sometimes we take on smaller projects as well. Drop us a line.

Typical lead times are six to eight weeks. Larger and more complex pieces can take longer. If you’re on a tight deadline, let us know upfront and we’ll tell you if it’s doable.

Skip harsh cleaners. Warm, soapy water on a cloth, then wipe it completely dry. That’s all it takes.

Not yet. But we often have customers visit the shop to see pieces that we have in progress.

Yes. We warrant structural integrity for 3 years and finishes for 1 year from the date of purchase. Normal wear, misuse, and the natural movement and variation of wood aren’t covered. To make a claim, email joe@sounddesignsny.com or call (516) 946-6726 with your order number, a description, and photos. The warranty is for the original purchaser and requires proof of purchase.

Two sounds. Joe learned the craft at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, on Puget Sound. Then he came home to build on Long Island Sound.

Yes. News 12 Long Island featured the shop on Made on Long Island. Long Island Press covered the 30-foot conference table we built for the US Army at Fort Knox. Yes. For every dining table we sell, we plant a fruit or nut tree on Long Island's North Shore. The first planting is November 2026. Black walnut, pawpaw, and American persimmon, all native or naturalized, all useful.

Much of it comes from trees that came down on Long Island’s North Shore, the old Gold Coast. We don’t take every tree, only ones worth building with. The slabs air dry for two years or more and are finally kiln dried before they go into inventory.

No. Local wood is our starting point, but we also use other American hardwoods. On some projects we even use exotic species like mahogany if a project calls for it.

It’s more than a story. The Gold Coast estates planted rare specimens from around the world, and some of those trees are still here. We’ve rescued black walnut, cherry, elm, black locust, and even katsura, a species originally native to Japan. You’re not going to stumble across katsura at a lumber yard. When one of these trees comes down, we pay attention.

Black walnut, cherry, white oak, elm, and tulip all grow beautifully here. The walnut we’ve pulled from North Shore backyards has some of the richest grain we’ve ever worked with. Deep chocolate, threads of red and purple, the occasional flash of full color.

Pretty much anything you can imagine. Standard designs include tapered legs, wishbone legs in any color, U-shaped steel legs, and sculpted, round, and hexagon pedestals. Tell us what you have in mind and we’ll make it happen.
