Salutations Sideboard

Built for a longtime customer here in Glen Cove, the same one who has our walnut shelving unit and a live edge dining table.

It's named after Salutations, a Gold Coast estate not far from the shop. The estate sits on its own island right here in Glen Cove. We first came across it in the Mansions of the Gold Coast book, and we love the name and the place.

The piece has three drawers and three cabinets, on a custom steel base built by a local fabricator. The hardware is by Plank Hardware. It's wavy and a little wabi sabi, which suits the wild figure of the bookmatched curly walnut slabs that form the doors.

The light stripe down the center is sapwood, the newer growth on the tree. Walnut has a stark contrast between the heartwood, a dark chocolate color, and the sapwood, which is usually cream or fawn. When I designed the piece I wanted a stripe of sapwood down the middle to add visual interest.
