Our Story
We make furniture for homes and businesses, often from local wood.
When we say local, we mean it. Much of our wood comes from downed trees on the North Shore, Long Island’s Gold Coast. The rest is American hardwood from suppliers we trust.
Every piece is handmade and completely unique, retaining all the remarkable fascination and wonder of the most atypical wood.
These are heirloom pieces, built to be handed down. The way American furniture used to be made, and the way it should still be made.
Our goal is simple: build you something you’ll never want to get rid of.

WHY SOUND DESIGNS
The place is in the wood.
It starts with a tree.
A big oak comes down on a North Shore estate. Many trees like that go to the chipper. We have ours milled into slabs, and much of what we build starts that way.
Not from a catalog.
A catalog table was made for a room nobody has ever seen. Yours is made for your room, your measurements, your finish. We rarely make the same thing twice.
You talk to the builders.

WHERE WE BUILD
Made in Glen Cove, the heart of the Gold Coast.
Our shop is in the historic Pratt Oval, built by the Pratt family. We once sourced a beautiful elm from a backyard that used to be part of their estates. A true Gold Coast tree.
Our name comes from Long Island Sound, but it goes deeper than that. Here’s the story.
